Solo Exhibition

Curated by Morgan Wedderspoon

Union Gallery (Queens University)
Kingston, ON

March 5 – May 11, 2024

One enters through black velvet curtains and arrives in an environment that recalls both the back room and the dance floor of a gay bar. Real neon paired with hyper realistic renderings of neon signs referencing fictional gay bars hang on the walls, while scenes of queer clubs in media play on loop.

Expanding on the exhibition [now]here, haven continues to explore the relationship between fictionalized representations of queer spaces and their brick-and-mortar counterparts. The centre of the gallery features an early iteration of an altar to Leslie Fenberg’s novel Stone Butch Blues, while the entrance contains a curated library of books relating to the histories of queer gathering spaces.
