Banff Spring Artist Residency

Production Residency

Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity

May-June, 2024

In 2024, I participated in the Banff Spring Artist in Residence Program at the Banff Centre for Art and Creativity.

The residency was five weeks in duration and was led by faculty: Allyson Mitchell, Deirdre Logue, and Rita McKeough

This highly competitive program consisted of 18 artists (majority queer) and was led by three established queer elders who have done invaluable work in the Canadian contemporary art world. I received dedicated mentorship, started a new body of work including painting – a medium I had little experience in – and learned new skills such as metal working and mold making. I also collaborated with the other residents to curate a group exhibition for the culmination of our five-week program. This residency connected me with an international arts community of peers and mentors with whom I have since collaborated. These projects have been supported by external arts funding and awards including an OAC Mid-Career Visual Artists Creation Projects Grant ($7500), the Superframe Framing Award ($1500) and a Hamilton Arts Award ($2500) in recognition of both my studio practice and curatorial work.
